Pilotage is compulsory for mooring and unmooring, day or night. The pilot will meet vessels in the anchorage area 2 miles south of the end of the quay. After the vessel has berthed, the Pilot/Loading Master remains on board and requires a separate cabin.

Five tugs are available to assist with berthing and unberthing. Depending on weather and safety conditions, additional tugs may be assigned by Botaş or the port authority, or requested by the vessel.

(1) Quays 1 and 2 are designed to berth vessels with a maximum displacement of 190,000 tonnes and a deadweight tonnage (DWT) between approximately 80,000 and 320,000 tonnes.

(2) Quays 3 and 4 are designed to berth vessels with a maximum displacement of 105,000 tonnes and a deadweight tonnage (DWT) between approximately 30,000 and 150,000 tonnes.

(3) Berthing and departure manoeuvres are performed day and night, except at Pier 4. Berthing manoeuvres at Pier 4 are performed only during daylight hours.

(4) Loading arms are operated from the crane tower on the pier using a hydraulic system. Ballast can be discharged to shore from all loading arms.

(5) All vessels shall be equipped with manifolds and equipment that comply with OCIMF requirements for tanker manifolds and equipment.

(6) Particular attention shall be paid to ensuring that the vessel manifold, circuits and manifold supports are fixed to the vessel structure.

(7) Ballasted vessels must arrive with sufficient draught and the propeller completely submerged for safe manoeuvring, as indicated in MARPOL.
