About BOTAS FSRU

The BOTAS FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) Terminal in Dortyol (Hatay) is a state-operated facility that enables Turkey to import LNG, regasify it onboard the FSRU vessel, and feed natural gas into the national pipeline network.

Key technical and operational features include:

  • The FSRU vessel, named “Ertuğrul Gazi”, has a storage capacity of 170,000 m³ LNG, equivalent to about 110 million standard m³ of natural gas, and a regasification capacity around 28 million m³/day.
  • The terminal’s jetty and mooring infrastructure is designed for ship-to-ship (STS) operations: LNG carriers up to Q-Max size can berth alongside the FSRU using the starboard side alongside mooring scheme.
  • Mooring operations follow OCIMF / SIGTTO best practices. The FSRU and LNG vessel mooring lines are handled in coordinated fashion, with strict rules on line types (no mixing of wires & synthetic lines), mooring angles, approach speeds, and tension management.
  • The terminal includes an onshore pipeline that links the FSRU facility with Turkey’s national gas transmission system, facilitating continuous delivery of gas to the region.
  • All cargo transfers are governed by detailed safety protocols: emergency shutdown (ESD) systems, gas detection, communication links, fendering arrangements, cargo hose design and testing, pre-transfer safety meetings, and strict rules on operations under adverse weather.
  • The FSRU began service in 2018 (February 7) and replaced the previously chartered FSRU MOL Challenger.
In sum, the BOTAŞ FSRU Terminal stands as a modern, high-capacity LNG import hub in Turkey’s southern region—merging floating LNG storage, onboard regasification, and robust safety infrastructure to support the country’s gas supply resilience.
